Gestalt

For this design, I created seven 5 x 5 inch artboards using Adobe Illustrator, each with nine black 0.5 inch squares organized in an abstract fashion that was consistent with a particular design theory of Gestalt Principles. The squares could touch, but not overlap, could only be rotated at a 45 degree angle, and extension beyond the artboard was permitted only for the Continuation design. I particularly enjoyed how this project creatively challenged my understanding of artistic composition by stripping away all other elements of design. Utilizing only theories of Gestalt forced me to think outside of the box, literally!
